I offer free sample edits of up to one thousand words to help you get a feel for my editing style and approach. This allows you to decide whether my editing aligns with your vision for your manuscript. It also helps me as the editor accurately estimate the timeline and costs for the entire project. Sample edits help us both establish a clear understanding of the scope of work and expectations upfront.

Authenticity reading, also known as sensitivity reading, helps ensure accurate and respectful representation in a story, particularly when an author is writing about identities or experiences outside their own.
For instance, if a straight, cisgender Black man creates a white lesbian character, they might want to hire an authenticity reader who has firsthand experience with that identity to provide feedback on the portrayal.
Topics I read for:
Mixed-race identities (particularly Black and white)
Lesbian identities
Women’s issues
Military and veteran cultures (US)
War depictions
Mental health conditions and disabilities (depression, anxiety, PTSD)
Sleep disorders (hypersomnia/hypersomnolence, narcoplepsy)

Proofreading is the final polish before publication. When you book this service, I focus on catching any lingering typos, grammatical errors, punctuation mistakes, and formatting inconsistencies.
This is not the stage for major rewrites or revisions—just a careful, precise review to ensure your manuscript is polished and ready for readers.

Sometimes spelled copy editing, (because even editors can’t agree on spelling), copyediting focuses on the little details. When you book this service, I edit for grammatical issues, typos, punctuation, clarity, coherence, concision, consistency, and more. I strive to maintain your unique voice and style while eliminating errors and ambiguities that may detract from your story.
All completed copyedits will come with a style sheet that helps to ensure consistency throughout the manuscript and any additional series installments.
I copyedit using The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th Edition as my style guide.

Line editing is done on a broader scale than copyediting, though they often overlap. When line editing, I’m looking for showing vs. telling, consistent viewpoint, filter words, overwriting, adverbs, tentative language, timeline nudges, action beats, tenses, and more. Line editing is a much more comprehensive look at your manuscript. Unlike most freelance fiction editors, I offer line editing and copyediting as a bundle. If you book a line edit with me, I will also copyedit it for no additional fee.
All completed line editing projects come with both a style sheet and an in-depth editorial report to walk you through my suggestions and changes.
